Sometimes life gets a little busy. We get a little overworked and overwhelmed. We forget that we have everything we need at our fingertips for our own personal happiness and joy. Sometimes we just need a reminder that we are capable of creating joy in the everyday.
We are all looking for joy in our lives, aren’t we? Don’t each of us do everything we can to create joy in our lives? I did a study a while back that talked about storing those little, happy memories in a proverbial tank… and then when life gets bleak and crappy we go straight to thank tank and do our best to draw on the happy within it. Is that easy to do? Not at first, no. With practice though there’s a world of possibilities when you can redirect the ugly energy into positive.
Have you ever considered creating a tank to fill and draw on later? It makes such a world of difference in how I view my own life. I’ve seen dramatic change in others who do the same. We take an extra moment to truly see and experience moments. Small moments in time when the stars shine a little brighter, the rainbow looks vibrant in front of the gray clouds, our children’s laugh dancing in the air. Moments that make you smile, and feel warm and fuzzy. Treasure those memories and bank them. Store them, with interest if you can so when you make a withdrawal later on it doesn’t feel like it takes much at all from the overall account.
The hardest part is remembering to both add to your tank and then remember that it’s there when you need it. It’s like feeling someone pushing on your very last nerve, and then, before you explode you remember that time that someone paid for your meal or coffee in a drive-thru chain. Was there joy in that moment? Focus on and remember that joy. Let it fill you in the moments when you need it most.
Life is a whirlwind. It’s fast-paced and crazy at times. We can persevere through it all if we can create our own joy by simply taking the time to both recognize it in the moments it is strongest so we can remember it again in the dullest moments. There’s no need to trudge through life without joy. We can and should seek as much of it as we can in our daily lives. This one life that we get is so much sweeter when we can do that. So, go forth and seek joy.
